Restoring...
BioHaven® Floating Islands may provide a dynamic barrier between land and open water by creating new wetlands and a buffer against wave erosion.
Louisiana alone has lost 1900 square miles of wetlands since the 1930's, which is approximatly one football field every 38 minutes. In 2003, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita transformed 217 square miles of coastal wetlands into open water. There is a great need to restore the coast and improve levee and shoreline stabilization, not only in Louisiana, but in many other coastal regions that are seeing their wetlands disappear. BioHaven® Floating Islands can convert any river, stream, pond, or lake into a productive wetland that also improves water quality. In addition, islands have the ability to buffer against daily wave erosion.
